Mountain Valleys RC&D/EnergyCap Receives New Grant From The Tobacco Trust Fund Commission




In October Mountain Valleys received a new grant to be used with the EnergyCap program.  The grant will provide funding to WNC farmers for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.  The cost share program will provide 50% of eligible project costs with a $10,000 cap.


Eligible projects might include:


Energy Efficiency                                                        Renewable Energy

Lighting                                                                        Solar PV

Insulation                                                                    Solar Hot Water

Greenhouse efficiency                                              Bio-mass boilers

Equipment upgrades                                                 Micro-hydro

Ventilation fans                                                          Wind

Irrigation improvements                                          Animal waste


To date, agreements have already been made with 5 farmers to fund projects in Buncombe, Haywood, Polk, and Madison Counties.  The agreements amount to $47,300 of the total $100,000 in TTF project money.  The agreements include 3 solar PV projects, one solar battery storage system, and an insulation project.
